The highest Combat level achievable in RuneScape is Level 138. The Combat level of a player character depends on the level of each of the Combat skills of that player. The higher the Combat level the more skilled and hence more deadly that player is in the area of Combat.

When placing your curser over a player character or non player character (NPC) the name and Combat level of the character will be displayed. If the display appears in green you have a higher Combat level then your potential opponent. If the display appears in yellow - orange you have the same, similar or slightly lower Combat level than your opponent. Finally, if the display appears in red you are of a significantly lower level than your opponent.

There are two types of Combat areas: Single and Multi-combat. In single Combat areas players experience one on one fighting. Multi-combat areas are identified by two crossed swords appearing in the bottom right corner of your gaming screen. Areas signified as multi-combat will allow your character to fight multiple targets.

Melee - Weak Against Magic - Strong Against Range. Magic - Weak Against Range - Strong Against Melee. Range - Weak Against Melee - Strong Against Magic.
