Avoid Fruit and Nuts You Are What You Eat!

Cooking is a very useful skill because eating food restores lost Hit Points (HP). Hit Points determine the health of your character so the higher they are the healthier your character is. The Cooking Skill is especially useful if you are injured in battle and need a fast way to replenish your HP. As a character new to the Cooking Skill you will often burn food however as your Cooking Skill increases you will find that you will burn less food and have access to a wider array of foods to cook.

There are two types of Cooking available to FTP characters; open fire and range (oven). Cooking on an open fire allows the convenience of Cooking anywhere in RuneScape as long as logs and a tinderbox are available, however open fire Cooking requires experience in both the Woodcutting and Firemaking Skills to accomplish effectively. On the other hand, ranges are less likely to burn your food during preparation and are able to be used to prepare a wider variety of food, however they are usually only found in cities, towns and villages and therefore may not be available when you need them most.

The Cooking Guild is located in Varrock, to enter you must be wearing a "Chef's Hat" and have at least a level 32 Cooking. The Cooking Guild is a good place to create apple pies because of the respawning cooking apples and pie dishes. The guild is set inside a large windmill, which may be used to make flour, a needed ingredient of many RuneScape pastries and pizzas.

All beginning food items may be cooked on an open fire or using the range however advanced food items may only be cooked using a range. The Lumbridge cooking range is said to have special properties compared to other ranges within RuneScape. Using this cooking range apparently reduces your chances of burning food. Another helpful hint involves the time saving "Cook X Option". If you have more than one of any specific food item in your inventory, you can cook these multiple food items by using the "Cook X Option". Just right click the food, select the "Cook X Option" and type in the amount of the item you would like to attempt to cook.

Use "The Guide" above to uncover the Cooking level you need to attain before Cooking a specific type of food. Extra ingredients may be purchased at the General Exchange, found in various respawn locations (Ex. eggs & cheese) throughout RuneScape and sometimes, although rarely, may be found in the general stores. Unneeded ingredients may be traded, sold to other players via the GE (General Exchange) or sold to general stores. Sites containing more information on the Cooking Skill are located in the links section.
