Make Not More Than Ye Can Wear.

There are many aspects of Crafting, all of which are considerably useful. A helpful hint when Crafting is to use the "Create X Option", it saves time and a lot of clicking.

Crafting pottery items will aid you in the Cooking Skill as the pots may be used to hold flour, the pie dishes hold pie crust as well as any other necessary pie ingredients and the bowls can contain water. To make pottery items you must mine clay and combine that clay with a bucket of water to make soft clay. Use the soft clay with the pottery wheel found in Barbarian Village to craft the item of your choice then use the nearby pottery oven to fire your creation.

Leather Crafting is another aspect of Crafting that can be accomplished by FTP users. You can start this skill by killing cows in the pen bordering Lumbridge and Al Kharid. Collect the cowhides and head over to the tanner in Al Kharid. You will need 10 gp to cross the border gate if you have not completed the Prince Ali Rescue Quest. Pay the Tanner 1 gp per hide to make soft leather or 3 gp per hide to make hard leather. Then head east to the Crafting store and purchase a needle for 1 gp and some thread for 1 gp per roll. Use the needle on the hide and choose which leather item you wish to create. There is another Crafting store located in Rimmington however most experienced players use the one in Al Kharid because it is closer to both the cow pen and the tanner.

Jewellery (Yes, I know it's spelled wrong but that is how it's spelled in RuneScape.) All jewellery items in RuneScape are made of either silver or gold, so in order to begin you will need a minimum Mining level of 20 to mine silver and a level 40 in Mining to mine for gold. For the new adventurer the best place to mine that houses both silver and gold is just North West of the Duel Arena in Al Kharid, you can use your pickaxe as a weapon to defeat the level 15 scorpions contained in the mine if you do not have a combat level of 30 or more. After mining your ore decide which item you wish to craft and head over to the Crafting store (also in Al Kharid) to buy the mold for the desired item. After making your purchases it is time to create your first piece of jewellery. So your next task will be to smelt the ores into bars. A minimum Smithing level of 20 is required to smelt silver and a minimum of 40 is required for gold. The closest furnace to the Al Kharid mining site and Crafting Store is located in Lumbridge just a short way to the North West of the general store. Right click a piece of ore and use it on the furnace, a metal bar of that ore type will instantly be created. Once you have turned all your ores into bars right click the metal bar and use it on the furnace. A menu should appear asking you wish item you wish to craft and provided you have the correct Crafting level the item will be created for you.

Spinning is a lower level Crafting Skill that can be very useful to an experienced mage. Starting this skill is easy. Purchase a pair of shears from the Lumbridge general store and use the shears on the sheep located in a pen just to the North of the shop. This process will give you wool. When your inventory is full, take the wool to the spinning wheel in Lumbridge Castle. Right click on the wool and use it on the spinning wheel to get a ball of wool. As your Crafting level increases you will be able to make the Holy Symbol, The Unholy Symbol, and a large selection of amulets. Use the ball of wool you just created on any of these items to string them, making them wearable necklaces. Later as your Magic level increases you may choose to enchant these items with a wide variety of special abilities. Other spinning wheels can be found in The Barbarian Village, and Falador.

Dyeing capes is another low level Crafting Skill, it takes a while to do and many people are unwilling to spend their time traveling to get all the necessary items required to attempt it. For this reason dyeing capes can be a good source of income for the new player. The first step in the process is to collect the capes. You can do this by defeating highwaymen along the passes of Draynor Village, Port Sarim and Falador. Typically one out of every 3 highwaymen will leave a cape behind for you to take. Bank these capes at the Draynor Village bank. Pay Aggie, the witch in Draynor Village 5 gp to make the dyes for you after you have collected the ingredients below. Then simply use the created dyes on the capes. You can also mix the dyes. Red and blue for purple dye, blue and yellow for green dye and yellow and red for orange dye.

Cape Dyeing:

  • Red - 3 Sets Of Red Berries. Red Berries are located South of Varrock, Look near the South Eastern Varrock Mining Site.
  • Yellow - 2 Onions. Onions grow in a garden just North of Rimmington.
  • Blue - Woad Leaves. Woad leaves must be purchased from Wyson the gardener in Falador for 20 gp for a set of two.

Use "The Guide" on the left to view some of the required levels needed to craft various items throughout RuneScape. Extra Crafting equipment may be purchased at the Crafting shops in Al Kharid and Rimmington and sometimes, although rarely, may be found in the general stores. Unneeded Crafting equipment may be traded, sold to other players via the GE (General Exchange) or sold to general stores. Sites containing more information on the Crafting Skill are located in the links section.
