Behold! Fire!
Since Woodcutting is an excellent starter skill for the RuneScape novice, requires the least explanation and is most likely the first skill you'll begin to train. Firemaking is the practical
progression skill. Much of the knowledge you gained while Woodcutting can also be applied to Firemaking. To begin Firemaking all that is required is an axe and tinderbox. You may obtain a free
bronze axe and tinderbox from the Woodcutting Tutor, Wilfred; who is located to the North of Lumbridge.
To find Wilfred follow the river, if you pass the furnace you have gone a tad to far.
Once you have an axe and tinderbox, choose a regular tree and begin cutting. When you have a set of logs stored in your inventory use your tinderbox on the set of logs. Your character will
lay the logs on the ground and attempt to light a fire. Eventually you will be successful and at that point will have begun training the Firemaking Skill. Your chances of lighting a fire
depend on your Firemaking Skill level. Logs that are obtained when Woodcutting can be used in a variety of ways; for the FTP user the most common uses are to burn (Firemaking), to
burn and heat food items (Cooking) and to make money.
A Successful Fire.
Take notice that to gain use of the iron axe only requires only a level 1 (the same as the bronze axe) in the Woodcutting Skill. This upgrade will allow you to cut wood at a faster rate
increasing your speed in leveling Firemaking by increasing your speed in the Woodcutting Skill. Remember that free axe you acquired from the Woodcutting Tutor? Put it to good use as your
first weapon and have a go at one of the green goblins walking close to you. Defeating a few goblins (the number depends upon their drops), should give you enough money to visit the general
store located just South East of the Woodcutting Tutor and purchase an iron axe to continue your training.
Also note that from time to time something may damage your axe, if this should occur you may either purchase a new one, Smith one (if you have the appropriate Smithing Skill level) or have
your axe repaired by Bob, of Bob's Brilliant Axes located in Lumbridge. The cost of the repair will depend on which type of axe you need repaired, the higher the level; the higher the cost.
Helpful Tips Quick Leveling In Firemaking:
- Burn logs that give the highest level of experience points available to you. This will ensure that you level up faster.
- Bank cut logs when Woodcutting, then burn them near a bank for a quick reload of your inventory.
- Use the Firemaking Skill to cook when no range is available.
Use "The Guide" on the left to uncover the Firemaking level you need to attain before cutting a specific type of tree. If you should loose your tinderbox a new one may be purchased at
one of the many general stores positioned throughout RuneScape. Unneeded logs may be traded, sold to other players via the GE (General Exchange) or sold to general stores. Sites containing more
information on the Firemaking Skill are located in the links section.
