Woodcutting is an excellent starter skill for the RuneScape novice (commonly referred to as a noob or nooblet) because you may begin training as soon as you enter RuneScape. All that is required to begin is an axe. You may obtain a free bronze axe from the Woodcutting Tutor, Wilfred; who is located to the North of Lumbridge. To find Wilfred follow the river, if you pass the furnace you have gone a tad to far.

Logs are obtained by Woodcutting and can be used in a variety of ways. For the FTP user, the most common uses are to burn (Firemaking), to burn and heat food items (Cooking) and to make money.

Take notice that to gain use of the iron axe only requires a level 1 (the same as the bronze axe) in the Woodcutting Skill. This upgrade will allow you to cut wood at a faster rate increasing your speed in leveling the Woodcutting Skill. Remember that free axe you acquired from the Woodcutting Tutor? Put it to good use as your first weapon and have a go at one of the green goblins walking close to you. Defeating a few goblins (the number depends upon their drops), should give you enough money to visit the general store located just South East of the Woodcutting Tutor and purchase an iron axe to continue your training.

From time to time something may damage your axe, if this should occur you may either purchase a new one, Smith one (if you have the appropriate Smithing Skill level) or have your axe repaired by Bob, of Bob's Brilliant Axes located in Lumbridge. The cost of the repair will depend on which type of axe you need repaired, the higher the level; the higher the cost.

Helpful Tips For Quick Leveling In Woodcutting:

  • The higher level you are, the easier it is to cut logs.
  • In cases where the bank is close, it is faster to bank then drop the logs.
  • In cases where a shop is close, sell the logs.
  • If you are not close to a bank or shop, burn the logs (Firemaking).

Use "The Guide" on the left to uncover the Woodcutting level you need to attain before cutting a specific type of tree / log or using certain equipment. Axes may be purchased at the Bob's Brilliant Axes located in Lumbridge and can often be found in the general stores. Unneeded logs may be traded, sold to other players via the GE (General Exchange) or sold to general stores. Sites containing more information on the Woodcutting Skill are located in the links section.
